Healthy Living Champions

At Day Lewis Pharmacy, we have two Healthy Living Champions, Yvette and Rory. Since the start of the Healthy Living Pharmacy campaign, our two Healthy Living Champions have helped to organise a number of events in aid of public health and wellbeing.

Past health campaigns have focussed on conditions such as eczema, bowel and skin cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's to name but a few. 

In 2012, NHS Hull recognised the pharmacy with a prize for the best health promotion campaign.

It followed our successful New Year's Resolutions campaign at the start of the year designed to encourage people to think about aspects of their lives and make changes.  Ideas included stopping smoking and living a healthier lifestyle.

We have also won the national 2015 NHS Flu Fighter Carers Award for our work with the Carer Friendly Pharmacy Scheme and our annual winter flu vaccination service.  

In November 2017, we were awarded the inaugral Day Lewis Healthy Living Pharmacy of the year award for our dedication to not only our pharmacy but also other pharmacies in the area in helping establish the Healthy Living concept.  We competed against over 300 stores nationwide to win this award and are very proud of this achievement.

In October 2018, our pharmacist, Neil, won the prestigious 'Pharmacy Business' Public Health Pharmacist of the Year Award at a ceremony in the Park Plaza Hotel in London. The award, sponsored by TEVA UK, was awarded for the regular campaigns run in the pharmacy, to help patients in the community with their health needs, as well as the numerous health services offered since the introducation of the HLP concept in 2012.

In November 2018, our healthy living champion, Yvette Oliver, won the inaugral Humber Pharmacy Awards Healthy Living Champion of the Year.

Local Zone, Health Zone and Travel Zone 

At Day Lewis Pharmacy Hull, we have dedicated areas to promote our Healthy Living service.

Our three zones, located at the front and back of the pharmacy and in the consultation room, showcases different health topics and products throughout the year such as Dry January, Stoptober smoking cessation and Summer Health Advice to name but a few.

The Local Zone consisting of various leaflets and posters promoting local health services and events in the Hull area for patients to access whilst the Travel Zone provides health advice on travelling abroad.

Pharmacy Business Awards 2018 - Public Health Pharmacist of the Year

Led by manager Neil Mowbray, this branch of Day Lewis provides many public health services, from minor ailments, emergency contraception, supervised consumption and stop smoking, to NHS Health Checks and the national flu service.

“They run a very thorough service covering many areas with discreet zones that convey public health messages. It’s very impressive,” said one awards judge.

The pharmacy is an all-round health hub for patients and their first port of call for medical queries. They run numerous health promotion campaigns and have two Health Champions, Rory and Yvette, who have helped deliver those campaigns in the pharmacy, on the busy high street, in community groups and any other local venue they can find.

They have truly embraced the Healthy Living Pharmacy concept, prompting another judge to suggest: “When you stand back and look at it, this pharmacy is the perfect example of a HLP.”

Their travel clinic has information about different parts of the world and the room where they supervise patients has information on dental care, nutrition, alcohol and smoking.

“You can copy their ideas for other pharmacies and allow them to emulate what they have done,” another judge said. “Independents can learn about documenting evidence from these guys.”

The pharmacy’s links with the local surgeries is excellent and with its strong focus on health interventions, local practices refer people directly to them while the branch’s relationship with the CCG is also strong.
