New Medicine Service (NMS)

Have you been prescribed a new medicine?

Do you have unanswered questions to ask about that medicine?

Do you want to know whether the effects you are getting are due to that medicine?

Sometimes when a new medicine is prescribed there is a lot of information to understand. You may have been diagnosed with a condition that will result in a change in lifestyle. Often the details of the medicine, what it’s for and how to take it seem in significant at the time.

If your new medicine is for one of the following long term condition your community pharmacist will liaise with the prescriber to provide an additional follow-up that provides further information and can help answer some of your questions;

• asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• type 2 diabetes
• antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy
• hypertension

We will usually check with you if the medicine is new to you then follow up twice over the next month.

If you use Day Lewis Pharmacy regularly we do hold a confidential PMR (Patient Medication Record) for you. This helps us to give advice. You may well have already used our Medicines Use Review service.

Please alert our pharmacists if this is the first time you have been prescribed your medicine.
